Back to painting in watercolors

Botanical illustration

I tried my hand at a variety of cacti, succulents and glass vessels this week. Here's a selection:

Watercolor Cacti

These are quick sketches with my small set of Winsor and Newton watercolors. I also tried some new Dr. Ph. Martin's Radiant Concentrated Water Color in Hyacinth Blue (a deep bright purple), and Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus liquid watercolor in turquoise blue. Both are liquid, very bright, but don't work quite like regular pan or tube watercolors. Once they're on the paper, you can't really pick them up with water or dilute them. They tend to dye the paper intensely and fast.
